GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), the most widespread wireless communication platform, is a packet-based data-transfer service based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication protocol. The GPRS protocol is a global standard and allows SmartSynch devices to be deployed virtually anywhere. The standards-based IP connectivity enabled in every SmartSynch device makes them adaptable and remotely upgradable to support the emerging Smart Grid's sensor and communications needs.
