SmartSynch received mention as a key contributor to the smart grid movement in today’s USA Today: “Buzz Grows for Modernizing Energy Grid”:
“Utilities are starting to install gear that relies on common standards, such as those used on the Internet, instead of proprietary technology. That's opening the market to more suppliers, says Adam Grosser of Foundation Capital, a smart-grid investor. Start-ups such as GridPoint and SmartSynch are developing software and sensors to run the grids.”

SmartSynch has been noted as a key player in the Smart Meter space. Earth2Tech editor Katie Fehrenbacher took an in-depth look at the Smart Grid and its key players in her “FAQ: Smart Grid” piece, which appeared on CNNMoney.com on January 27th:
“SmartSynch: One of the smaller innovative startups in the smart meter space, SmartSynch makes smart meters that communicate via IP networks like GPRS and Wi-Fi. The company founded in 1998 says it works with 75 power providers in the U.S. SmartSynch is backed by $80 million from Credit Suisse, Battelle Ventures, Beacon Group, JP Morgan Partners, Nth Power, Siemens Venture Capital and Duke Ventures.”

Earlier this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) issued a fact sheet outlining the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act: Clean, Efficient, American Energy. According to this document, the energy package will create more than 500,000 jobs and accelerate deployment of smart grid technology; a sizeable portion of the proposed $32 billion earmarked for “Smart Grid /Advanced Battery Technology/Energy Efficiency” will fund a Smart Grid Investment Program centered on
“transforming the nation’s electricity systems to modernize the electricity grid to make it more efficient and reliable. This will jumpstart smart grid demonstration projects in geographically diverse areas, increase federal matching grants for smart grid technology (20% to 50%) including 'Smart Meters' that give consumer more choice in their energy consumption at home, and spur research and development.”

Furthering our commitment to offering 100 percent IP-based smart grid solutions, SmartSynch recently joined the Internet Protocol for Smart Objects (IPSO) Alliance. The IPSO Alliance is a global non-profit organization serving the various communities seeking to establish the Internet Protocol as the network for the connection of Smart Objects by providing coordinated marketing efforts available to the general public. Its purpose is to provide a foundation for industry growth through building stronger relationships, fostering awareness, providing education, promoting the industry, generating research, and creating a better understanding of IP and its role in connecting Smart Objects. Goals include:
Promoting IP as the premier solution for access and communication for Smart Objects.
Promoting the use of IP in Smart Objects by developing and publishing white papers and case studies and providing updates on standards progress from associations like IETF among others and through other supporting marketing activities.
Understanding the industries and markets where Smart Objects can have an effective role in growth when connected using the Internet Protocol.
Organizing interoperability tests that will allow members and interested parties to show that products and services using IP for Smart Objects can work together and meet industry standards for communication.
Supporting IETF and other standards development organizations in the development of standards for IP for Smart Objects.
