SmartSynch Named Leading Smart Grid Innovator in New Book Profiling the 'Clean-Technology' Industry

Jackson, MS — June 15, 2007

SmartSynch, a global leader in public wireless smart metering technology serving the utility industry, has been named one of ten "companies to watch" in The Clean Tech Revolution (www.thecleantechrevolution.com), a new book released by Collins, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

In the book, authors Ron Pernick and Clint Wilder identify ten companies in each of eight clean-technology industry sectors that bear watching for growth and industry influence in the near to mid-term: solar energy, wind power, biofuels and biomaterials, green buildings, personal transportation, the smart grid, mobile applications, and water filtration. SmartSynch has been included in the Ten to Watch list for the chapter titled “Smart Grid: Creating an Intelligent, Distributed, Twenty-First-Century Grid.”

Of the smart grid, the authors write: "In the future our electric grid will start to look a lot more like the Internet. Homes and businesses will no longer be just energy consumers but also energy producers. This two-way flow of electrons will transform the electric utility industry. . . . The smart grid, while still a relatively new concept, offers one of the brightest opportunities in the clean-tech marketplace as it works to transform decades-old utility infrastructure."

“SmartSynch is proud to be recognized as a company to watch in this significant book, which spotlights and analyzes the fastest-growing businesses in the clean-tech sector,” said Stephen Johnston, SmartSynch's Chief Executive Officer. "The authors are 100% correct when they say our current electric grid will one day resemble the Internet. This is our vision as well, which is why we chose to put an IP address in every SmartMeter we deploy."

"Our Ten to Watch lists at the end of each chapter highlight companies that are playing a significant role in the growth and innovation of the clean-tech industry,” said Pernick, co-author of The Clean Tech Revolution and co-founder of Clean Edge, one of the industry’s premier research and publishing firms. “We looked at dozens of firms in each sector in the course of researching the book,” added Wilder, co-author of The Clean Tech Revolution and contributing editor for Clean Edge. “We chose ten companies, whether public or private, that are poised to make an impact.”

About the Book

In The Clean Tech Revolution: The Next Big Growth and Investment Opportunity, the authors identify the major forces that have pushed clean tech from back-to-the-earth utopian dream to its current revolution among the inner circles of corporate boardrooms, on Wall Street trading floors, and in government offices around the globe. The Clean Tech Revolution looks at developments from Shanghai, China to Hyderabad, India to Silicon Valley, highlighting breakthrough opportunities, potential roadblocks and pitfalls, and pioneering individuals, companies, and regions.

Pernick and Wilder based their book on extensive research from their work at Clean Edge and from interviews and conversations with more than a hundred clean-tech innovators. They shine the spotlight on the winners among technologies, companies, and regions that are likely to reap the greatest benefits from clean tech–and they show you why the time to act is now. List price is $26.95. More information is available at www.thecleantechrevolution.com.
